A mid-size manufacturer located on Lake Road in Medina contacted Viridi for assistance as they had increasing energy needs and rising utility costs. The process began with an energy audit in early 2023.
As part of this audit, a site visit and utility bill analysis were conducted in order to create an energy usage baseline, identify the main energy-using systems, and prioritize the most impactful efficiency measures. On top of securing a 4-year electric supply contract, the member was able to identify the need for a full facility lighting upgrade. They worked with Viridi to obtain a quote and apply for grant funding to complete the upgrade. The lighting project consists of the replacement of almost 900 fixtures with long-life LEDs. The initial investment for this project, roughly $200,000, is offset by a grant worth nearly $90,000 through the USDA Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) and by an annual energy savings of almost $51,000.
REAP can be used for several different energy efficiency projects including but not limited to:
· Lighting
· HVAC
· Insulation
· Cooling or refrigeration
· Doors and windows
· Replacement of energy-inefficient equipment
REAP can also be used for the purchase and installation of renewable energy systems such as solar. There are two deadlines left if you would like to apply in 2024: June 30th and September 30th.
