USDA Rural Energy for America Technical Assistance Grant Program
Updated: August 15th, 2025
In May 2024, Medina County Economic Development Corporation and Wayne County Economic Development Council received $100,000 through the USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) Technical Assistance Grant (TAG) Program.
The TAG program helps farms and businesses access:
-
Fully funded ASHRAE Level 1 Audits (a $1,000–$2,000 value)
-
Partially funded ASHRAE Level 2 Audits
With fixed energy prices in Ohio nearing $0.10/kWh, improving energy efficiency is more important than ever.
Energy audits can identify and prioritize cost-saving projects, including retrofits and equipment replacements. Businesses with multiple systems to upgrade—or projects planned within the next two years—can use this program to get a written report outlining cost benefits and projected energy savings.
Level 2 ASHRAE Audits also help businesses qualify for additional project funding or financing, as many programs require an engineering study before approval.
Eligibility requirements:
-
Operate in Medina or Wayne County
-
Be an agricultural producer OR
-
Be a business in a REAP-eligible area and meet size standards for revenue or employee count
Viridi, in partnership with the Medina and Wayne County economic development organizations, submitted the grant application and now administers the program. Our team specializes in identifying and securing grants or low-interest financing for projects identified through these audits.
Through the TAG program, your business can:
-
Receive a free energy audit
-
Evaluate cost-saving projects with expert guidance
-
Use your audit to apply for grants and low-interest financing
Funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the funds are gone, the program will close.
