What is Available and How Do I Qualify?

This program provides grants from $250,000 to $2,500,000 for eligible projects that reduce energy use and costs. Projects must reduce energy usage by at least 15% and pay back in 15 years (max).

What Projects are Covered?

Eligible efficiency measures include insulation, LED lighting, energy efficiency lighting technologies, energy management control systems, HVAC upgrades, weather sealing, door and window replacements, combined heat and power systems, and renewable energy/cogeneration systems.

How is Efficiency Measured?

In order for energy distribution technologies and renewable energy technologies to be eligible, they must be a part of a larger energy efficiency project. All projects must achieve at least a 15% reduction in energy usage, demonstrate economic and environmental impacts, and be included within a long-term energy strategy.

Timeline

All organizations interested in applying for an Advanced Energy Fund grant must first complete an ASHRAE Level II audit. The application window opened at 10am on November 18th, 2024 and the DoD will accept applications through 4pm on February 17th, 2025 when the program closes. All applications are then scored and award announcements will be made.

What are the Compliance Requirements?

Documentation is needed to apply for Advanced Energy Fund dollars. This includes but is not limited to an overview of the project, projected energy and cost savings, and an ASHRAE Level II energy audit or equivalent. The projects being pursued also must comply with certain federal guidelines, such as Davis Bacon prevailing wage and Build America Buy America.

Can I Use the Grant to Fund a Project Already in Progress or Recently Completed?

No. The Department of Development does not cover any projects that are in progress or are already completed. This program is designed to assist with funding energy-saving measures. If you have a project already in progress, it will not qualify for the Advanced Energy Fund.

For the best chance of securing DoD support, make sure to apply before beginning your project and ensure it meets all program requirements.
