Wrap-Tite – Three Curtailment Programs, 30% Reduction in Annual Electricity Costs
A Strategic Approach to Curtailment
BDG Wrap-Tite, Inc., a Solon-based manufacturer of packaging, shipping, and safety products, is seeing major bottom-line results from their proactive approach to strategic energy management. By partnering with Viridi, the company now participates in three complementary curtailment programs that together can generate an estimated $355,400 in annual value.
These programs combine to help Wrap-Tite lower its Capacity Tag or “Peak Load Contribution” (PLC), Transmission Tag or “Network Service Peak Load” (NSPL), earn new revenue through Demand Response, reduce costs, and strengthen overall system reliability:
- PLC Management: $133,400 in projected annual savings
- NSPL Management & Non-Market-Based (NMB) Pilot Program Enrollment: $142,000 in projected annual savings
- Demand Response: $80,000 estimated annual revenue from participation
Making Complex Programs Simple
What makes Wrap-Tite’s achievement stand out is not only the savings, but how seamlessly the company was able to participate in multiple programs at once. Viridi served as a trusted advisor and intermediary, helping the manufacturer take advantage of opportunities that would have otherwise required significant time and technical effort to manage independently.
Our team:
- Identified and modeled opportunities across PJM and utility programs, projecting savings under different curtailment scenarios.
- Connected Wrap-Tite with vetted providers to handle program operations transparently and effectively. Viridi negotiated to ensure Wrap-Tite receives maximum performance payments.
- Simplified enrollment by coordinating data, legal and contractual filings, and applications across all three initiatives.
- Navigated the regulatory process for First Energy’s NMB Pilot Program, which the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio officially approved on September 3, 2025.
Results Beyond the Meter
Together, these efforts are expected to help Wrap-Tite:
- Save more than $355,000 each year in combined avoided costs and revenue.
- Gain greater visibility into energy performance during critical peak periods.
- Support grid stability for all Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company customers by curtailing usage during times of high demand.
Reinvesting in People and Growth
Wrap-Tite is channeling its energy savings back into the community. The company has committed to $8 million in capital investments and 40 new full-time jobs over the next four years, while continuing to expand vocational training opportunities for its employees.
This initiative demonstrates how energy savings can do more than improve a company’s bottom line. It can fuel workforce development, facility expansion, and local economic impact.
